DANTE: Exceeding the Demands of Big Science Across Europe

DANTE has a certain obligation to favor leading edge technology, and it has found no other solution that can match the high levels of Infinera’s electronic and optical integration in the Intelligent Transport Network. However, it can be risky to be amongst the first customers for such an advanced technology. We asked DANTE’s CTO, Michael Enrico, for his feelings about this decision.

“Infinera was obviously the first, and still remains, the only vendor able to offer a coherent super-channel solution based on photonic integrated circuits. But for me it’s interesting to see that as soon as this solution was available, service providers showed a strong preference to buy it, rather than a solution based on discrete optical components.”
